Chisholm Police ID 3 Involved in Suspected Murder-Suicide

A suspected murder-suicide in Chisholm earlier this week left a man and woman both dead, with another man found with gunshot wounds outside the home, authorities confirm.

Officers were first called to a residence in the 100 block of 5th Street Northwest just after 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 17, for reports of a man seen on the front steps and covered in blood.

Responders found 25-year-old Ryder Presley Grove shot in both the arm and leg outside. A tourniquet was used at the scene before Grove was transported to the hospital. Police say he’s expected to survive his injuries.

As officers secured the area, a shelter-in-place order was issued for nearby homes and a perimeter was set around a nearby residence. Just before 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, the shelter-in-place was lifted as authorities determined there was no additional threat.

Inside the home, responders found two people dead from apparent gunshot wounds. They were identified as 30-year-old Lindsey Kaye Adams, of Chisholm, and 34-year-old Leo James Schweiss, 34, of Hibbing.

“While the investigation remains ongoing, tragically the preliminary information indicates this was most likely the result of an apparent murder-suicide,” Chisholm Police Chief James Vukad said in a written statement Friday.

More details will be confirmed when autopsies are completed, authorities say.

“This tragic day reminds us all of the fragility of life and the importance of community. We stand with those who are grieving, and we will continue to support them as this investigation moves forward,” Chief Vukad said. “This is a heartbreaking and deeply painful event. On behalf of the Chisholm Police Department, I want to extend my sincerest condolences to the families, friends and loved ones of those involved.”

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension Crime Scene Unit remained on site to process the scene. Authorities said all those involved in the incident have been identified and no additional suspects are sought.

“My deepest condolences and sympathy to the families and friends impacted by last night’s senseless and terrible act of violence. My heart breaks for the victims and for everyone experiencing such a deep loss today,” Chisholm Mayor Adam Lantz said in a written statement Wednesday. “Know that you do not grieve alone and you have our unwavering support.”

Vukad said both Adams and Schweiss had children, though it’s unclear if there were any present at the time of the incident Tuesday night.
