Friday Morning Crashes Leave 1 Man Dead, 2 Others Injured

A head-on crash in Chisago County Friday left one man dead and another injured, with a separate motorcycle crash in Mounds View two hours later sending a 64-year-old rider to the hospital.

The fatal crash occurred around 6:51 a.m. Friday morning along Highway 95 near Roe Avenue in Franconia Township.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a 2011 Audi A5 was traveling north in the southbound lanes when it collided head-on with a southbound 2015 Ford F250.

The driver of the Audi, a 50-year-old man from St. Croix Falls, Wisc., died at the scene. His name has not yet been released. The driver of the pickup, a 53-year-old man from Taylors Falls, was not wearing a seat belt but sustained only non-life-threatening injuries and declined transport to a hospital. Both vehicles had their airbags deploy and the road was dry at the time of the crash. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Around 8:40 a.m., emergency crews were called to another crash on the ramp from southbound I-35W to eastbound Highway 10 in Mounds View. There, authorities say a 64-year-old man from Brooklyn Park was riding a 2008 Harley-Davidson motorcycle when he lost control and struck a light pole. Radio traffic indicated the rider was not wearing a helmet and suffered serious facial and head injuries. He was transported by ambulance. His name has not yet been released.

Roads were temporarily closed while crews investigated and cleared the crashes. All have since reopened to normal traffic.
