Man Dies After Bicycle Crash with Minivan in Kandiyohi County

 

A 54-year-old man was killed Wednesday evening in a crash involving a bicycle and a minivan in Whitefield Township, according to the Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded just after 7:30 p.m. on June 4 to the crash near 120th Avenue Southeast and 15th Street Southeast.

Initial information indicates that a 59-year-old woman from Lake Lillian was driving a 2013 Chrysler minivan eastbound on 120th Avenue while overtaking a bicycle traveling in the same direction, also operated by a Lake Lillian resident.

Authorities say the bicyclist, a 54-year-old man, moved into the westbound lane as the minivan passed. He was then struck by the vehicle. First responders pronounced him dead at the scene and he has not yet been officially identified.

The woman driving the minivan remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

The Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office is leading investigation with help from the Minnesota State Patrol. Blomkest Fire, Blomkest First Responders and the Kandiyohi County Rescue Squad also assisted at the scene.
