Saint Paul PD: Man Dead in West Side Shooting, Suspect At large

Saint Paul Police say a man was fatally shot at a West Side apartment complex Wednesday, marking the fourth homicide of the year in the city.

Around 2:30 p.m. on May 28, officers were notified that a man had arrived at Regions Hospital with a gunshot wound to his torso. Despite efforts by hospital staff, the man was pronounced dead a short time later.

Initial information indicates the shooting happened at an apartment complex on the 600 block of Stryker Avenue, in the city’s West Side. According to dispatch audio and initial reports from the scene, the man and the shooter were in a physical struggle inside a unit before the shots rang out.

Law enforcement radio dispatches said the shooter may have jumped from a second-story window and fled on foot, though that has not yet been confirmed by authorities.

Officers quickly responded to the area and began searching for the suspect, setting up a perimeter and deploying a canine unit. Police have confirmed no arrests had been made as of late Wednesday evening.

The Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death and to confirm the man’s identity.
