Bicyclist Fatally Struck by School Bus in Anoka County

A 20-year-old man riding an E-Bike died Friday morning after being struck by a school bus driver in St. Francis.

Emergency responders were dispatched to the intersection of St. Francis Boulevard Northwest and Ambassador Boulevard Northwest shortly after 7:25 a.m.

According to the State Patrol, a Saint Francis school bus was making a right turn from a complete stop at a posted sign, heading south on Highway 47 from Ambassador Boulevard Northwest.

At the same time, 20-year-old Brady Gerald Ausland, of Oak Grove, was riding an electric bicycle southbound on Highway 47. According to initial findings, Ausland did not stop at the signage or the crosswalk at the intersection. The collision occurred when Ausland made contact with the bus just south of Ambassador Boulevard on Highway 47.

According to the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office, no students or other passengers were on board the bus at the time of the incident.

The bus driver was not injured in the incident, which remains under active investigation by the St. Francis Police Department, the Minnesota State Patrol and the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office.
