A grand jury today indicted a Rice County man on charges of 1st- and 2nd-degree murder after his roommate was found dead from a shotgun wound to the neck last month. Cody Vernon Kolstad, 32, of Morristown, was charged June 1 with 2nd-degree murder for the shooting death of Brian Daniel Stoeckel, 41, on May 31, 2022.

Brandon Gardas--the suspect in a 44-hour long standoff in Saint Michael last week--has been charged with two counts of 1st-degree attempted murder of a peace officer, two counts of 1st-degree assault, threats and several other charges, according to Wright County officials.

A Faribault man has been charged in relation to a St. Paul Park burglary after DNA left on discarded Coke Zero cans tied him to the crime scene. According to a criminal complaint, Michael Walter Kaste Fafara, 30, entered a garage service door of a residence on the 1400 block of Summit Ave. on Oct. 11, 2019.

An investigation is underway after Olmsted County deputies discovered a deceased woman under a tarp in the area of County Road 2 and 70th Ave. Ne. in Haverhill Township on Friday. Officers were called after someone mowing tall grass next to a field noticed the tarp and saw an arm sticking out from the side.

An armed man holed up in a Saint Michael home since yesterday afternoon was shot by officers and has been taken into custody. Brandon Gardas, 39, was being airlifted to the hospital as of 9 p.m. Wednesday, authorities have confirmed.

A Saint Paul man found guilty by a jury of second-degree murder was sentenced to more than 36 years in prison on Friday. Robert Lee Baker, 30, was found guilty by a jury in April 2022.

A 26-year-old woman appeared in a Washington County court earlier this month to face two charges of criminal vehicular operation after she allegedly struck an Oak Park Heights police squad car on Highway 36 near Stillwater Blvd. last December.

A Stillwater corrections officer and an inmate have been indicted for their alleged roles in a methamphetamine distribution organization within the Stillwater prison. Faith Rose Gratz, 24, a MCF-Stillwater corrections officer, and Axel Rene Kramer, 34, an inmate who is serving a 288-month sentence for 2nd-degree murder, conspired with each other to distribute meth within the prison.

Saint Paul police are investigating the city’s 20th homicide of the year after a man was found fatally stabbed in the North End neighborhood Monday. Officers were called to an apartment building on the 100 block of Winnipeg Ave. just after 5:30 p.m. for a reported assault.

Police arrested three suspects and recovered four firearms outside the Brooklyn Center Sun Foods, 6350 Brooklyn Blvd., around 8 p.m. Friday after an armed carjacking and ensuing vehicle pursuit. Brooklyn Park police said the victim was pistol-whipped by one of the suspects during a carjacking on the 7600 block of Jolly Ln.

Plymouth police are investigating after a 28-year-old man was found fatally shot in a vehicle outside a gas station Thursday night. Police were called to Sami’s Stop near Hwy. 169 & 36th Ave. N. around 8:20 p.m. after gunfire was reported in the area.

Saint Louis County authorities have taken a man into custody on a 3rd-degree murder charge after a woman’s fatal overdose last year. Cordaro Demario Ware, 32, is being held at the St. Louis County Jail awaiting a court appearance.

Saint Paul police say a homicide investigation is underway after a welfare check Friday night led to the discovery of a man dead from a gunshot wound in the Dayton's Bluff neighborhood.
