Suspect Arrested in Shakopee After Man Shot Dead in Saint Paul
Police arrested a homicide suspect in Shakopee on Sunday after a man was found shot and killed in the back yard of a Saint Paul residence two days before. Delaquay Levius Williams, 27, was arrested in Shakopee on Mar. 6 and booked on suspicion of murder, believed to be connected to the shooting on the 600 block of Blair Ave. on Friday morning.
South Minneapolis Shooting Leaves Man Dead, 3 Hurt
A man was shot and killed early Sunday morning after an argument led to gunfire at a residence on the 2700 block of Blaisdell Ave. S., Minneapolis police have confirmed. Three other people were hurt when the shots rang out shortly before 2:25 a.m. Officers arrived to find bullet damage to the outside of the residence and a large crowd still inside.
Dakota County Sheriff Not Seeking Re-election
Dakota County Sheriff Tim Leslie will not seek another term in the post, he announced Friday afternoon. Leslie says he plans to work part-time and spend time with grandkids, traveling, golfing and volunteering. He’s held the position since 2015. Leslie writes in the release that he encourages Chief Deputy Joe Leko to run for sheriff in the election this year. Leko is a 24-year department veteran.
22-year-old Driver Gets 4 Years for Killing Woman on Mobility Scooter
A 22-year-old Minneapolis man was sentenced Friday to just over four years in prison for fatally striking a woman who was on a mobility scooter last October. Cameron Mikkel Bendson pleaded guilty in January to one count of criminal vehicular homicide. Bendson was sentenced Mar. 4 to 50 months in prison and five years of probation, with credit for 144 days already served in jail.
Woman Charged After 4 Held Hostage in Saint Paul Gas Station
A woman accused of holding four people hostage at gunpoint inside an east Saint Paul gas station earlier this week has now been charged with four counts of kidnapping. Kanisha Deon Wiggins, 31, of Saint Paul, was arrested after a SWAT team breached the door of the Speedway station at 846 Johnson Pkwy. on Tuesday, March 1.
MN Troopers Stop 500+ Speeders During 10-day 'HEAT' Patrol
Minnesota State Troopers stopped 516 drivers for speeding during a 10-day period of what the agency called Highway Enforcement for Aggressive Traffic—or ‘HEAT’—patrols. Troopers also arrested 23 people for driving while impaired and six people for outstanding warrants.
Brooklyn Park Man Gets 16 Years for Washington Co. Sex Trafficking
A Brooklyn Park man charged with promoting prostitution has been sentenced in Washington County District County to more than 16 years in prison. James Edward Williams, 42, was sentenced Friday to 201 months in state prison on charges of engaging in sex trafficking and violation of a no-contact order.
White Bear Lake Woman Pleads Guilty in Relation to Man's 2021 Dakota Co. Killing
Under a plea agreement, a 23-year-old White Bear Lake woman will avoid a 2nd-degree murder charge in connection with the death of a man found tied and gagged with a rag in a bathroom in southern Dakota County last July. Ryann Elizabeth Smith, 23, was originally charged with 2nd-degree unintentional murder in the death of Chris Laftontaine, 55, at his home on July 2, 2021 in Greenvale Township, in southern Dakota County.
Champlin Man Arrested at MSP Airport After Domestic Assault in Kandiyohi Co.
A Champlin man was arrested Monday night at the Minneapolis-St. Paul airport after a reported domestic assault and gunshot fired in the city of Spicer that occurred early Sunday morning. According to a media release from the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office, on Sunday, Feb. 27 at about 4 a.m., they received a report of an assault with a firearm in the area of 100 Lake Ave. N. in Spicer, northeast of Willmar.
